Could your grandchildren pass a test
on your family history?
Could you?
Personal histories
Personal history is something everyone has -- it is the daily
events that compose your life, and your feelings during those
events.  Personal history is the memory of how you dealt with
the minor crisis of your daughter opening a can of whipped
cream from the bottom.  It is also how you overcame the major
crisis of losing your job after the birth of your first child.

Personal history is the story of how you lived your life, coped
with its vagaries, enjoyed its pleasures.  It's also about where
you were and how you felt during the great events of national
and global history.

Lifewriting is much more than autobiography.  It is an
opportunity for you to come to an understanding of yourself
and your life as well as to inform and delight your reader.
Ethical wills
Me and Dave and his "new" bike ~1960
Ethical wills are closely allied with personal histories.  Ethical
wills, rich in ancient tradition, can be traced to Biblical times
and are found in most cultures.  In our frenetic, technological
age, an ethical will provides the means for you to pass on your
values, your beliefs, your ethics.

An ethical will is not a legal document such as a last will and
testament or a living will; rather, it is a moral and spiritual
guide for your children and grandchildren.  It is a love letter to
your family wherein you share your personal principles and the
wisdom you've gained through living.  It is a
gift from the heart
-- the most precious "thing" you can bequeath to your family.
